I woke up this morning and lay very very still because it occurred to me that I wasn’t coughing. That would be the first time in 3 weeks that I was able to say that. I reached slowly and carefully for my iphone and still no coughing.
I was afraid to move. I thought that just maybe I had found the exact perfect location and angle to lay without upsetting my lungs… and I was even able to breathe through my nose without too much difficulty. It was no 100% healthy YAY!! moment but it was the best I’d felt in weeks. After some twittery banter I decided to make the long walk into my kitchen to grab some breakfast. I let my friend spell out the rules in a tweet.
And I was off. Just as I reached the kitchen doorway I felt a tickle in my chest but I moved on. I brewed some tea, poured some water and got some food from the fridge. I loaded a handful of dishes (clearly against the rules but my favorite water bottle was dirty, and really who can expect me to lay in bed sick without my favorite water bottle). Then the coughing (and the familiar pain in my stomach muscles as a reaction) began. I took a half dose of cough syrup and ushered my water and tea into the bedroom. I went back for my food and switched on the dishwasher. I went out a third time to get my vitamins and blood pressure medication, hugged and kissed my kid and then headed right back into bed where I am now.
I still haven’t finished my breakfast and I’m coughing a bit so I know that means I need to go back to bed.
The doctor said at least 3 days in bed. This is day 3 and I have something supremely important to do tomorrow so I better get some rest.
Oh well… hulu here I come.
