Halloween 1999 - "Super Doll"

I’ve been promising K for weeks that we would pull out the costume bins.  Yes, we have several large bins of costumes wigs and accessories… doesn’t everyone?

I was looking forward to it in an odd sort of way.  Kind of like you look forward to going to the dentist not because you enjoy the drilling you’re going to get, or the pain of the needle in your gums but because you want to get it all over with.

I just had K count and she says there are 6 bins.  Two of those are really large and the other four are medium-ish.  Plus there were all the pieces hanging up and laying on the floor in the back of the closet.  It’s a lot to take in.  But in an effort to save money and not further clutter our house Mike and I decided to save our brilliant NEW costume idea for another year and go with what we have in the house.  If we can’t find something in 6 bins then we’re hopeless.

I decided that I need two separate costumes.  One for all the family Halloween activities we have to do and then a different more adult costume when I judge the costume contest at the Rose City Rollers Nightmare on Burnside Halloween bash.  I knew I’d have no problem finding something in the mess of costumes for the Halloween parade, Girl Scout party and trick or treating… but what to do for the other?  I was convinced I would have to go back on my vow to shop from our personal costume to find something I was happy in.

I was wrong.

I found things I’d completely forgotten existed.  When I saw them my heart deflated a little bit and I thought sadly that I’d never be able to wear them.

I was wrong.  Again.

I picked a costume I wore once when I was 22.  Of course it needs some ghoulish accessories to bring it up to Halloween standards but I am completely pleased right now.

If that weren’t enough to put a smile on my face K, who we were planning to buy a new costume for, has insisted she would rather piece together something out of what we have.  She had no idea how many wigs I owned.  She’s currently singing show tune style songs about being a witch.

Now we just need to get Mike sorted out and we’ll have a happy little Halloween family once again.  I wonder if he’ll have a mind of his own about this or if he’ll just wear what I tell him to…  I have a feeling we’ll be seeing the return of Batman which is great except that I have to undo his costume when he needs to pee.  Sigh.

What are you going to be for Halloween?

Yay for still fitting into something you wore when you were 22!! PITA to have to help him pee all night long! Your family halloween photos are a highlight every year and looking forward to seeing what you get up to this year.
